For Australian small business

Your phone, answered.
Every time.

Switchboard picks up on the second ring, takes the job, books it into your calendar and texts you the details. After hours, on site, mid-job — the call still gets answered.

No credit card. Keep your number. Cancel any time.

Good afternoon, Northside Plumbing. This is Ava — I’m an AI assistant. How can I help?

Caller

Hi, my hot water system’s leaking all over the laundry floor.

Switchboard

That sounds urgent — can you turn the isolation valve off at the tank? I’ll get someone out today. What suburb are you in?

Caller

Brunswick East.

Why it pays for itself

A missed call is a job someone else got.

Switchboard is not a voicemail box with better manners. It has your diary, your price list and your service area, and it finishes the conversation.

Capture the job

Takes the name, the address, the problem and the urgency, then books it against real availability — not a “someone will call you back”.

Cover the hours you can’t

Nights, weekends, public holidays, and the ninety minutes you spend under a house. Set different behaviour for each.

Know it escalated properly

Anything it can’t finish is transferred, or sent to you as a message with the recording and a summary. Nothing quietly disappears.

Setup

Three steps, one afternoon.

STEP 01

Point your number at us

Keep the number on your van and your Google listing. Divert it when you’re busy, after hours, or always — your choice, changed from the dashboard.

STEP 02

Describe the business

Hours, suburbs you cover, call-out fee, what counts as an emergency, who to transfer to. Plain sentences, not a flowchart.

STEP 03

Listen before you go live

Ring the test line and hear exactly what your customers will hear. Change the wording, ring again. Publish when it sounds like you.

On the line

It interrupts politely, and it never pretends to be a person.

Callers can talk over it. It handles “hang on, let me get the address”. And it identifies itself as an AI assistant on every call — a setting you cannot turn off.

Good afternoon, Harbour Legal. This is an AI assistant. How can I help?

Caller

I’ve been served this morning and I have to respond by Friday.

That’s time-critical — I’m putting you through to the duty solicitor now. If the line drops, they have your number.

Answered in Australia

The call never leaves the country.

Most AI receptionists sold here route your customers’ voices through United States infrastructure, because their supplier has no Australian region. Ours does — every hop, end to end.

Recording consent, handled

Consent language plays before recording starts, per call, and is logged with the recording. State surveillance-devices law is stricter than most vendors assume.

It says it is an AI

Disclosure is on the first turn of every call and cannot be disabled. Claiming otherwise is misleading conduct under the Australian Consumer Law.

Your data, exportable

Transcripts, recordings and contacts export as CSV and audio on request, and are deleted on a retention window you set. No lock-in by hostage-taking.

The dashboard

Every call, transcribed, scored and searchable.

Open any call and read it. See what it booked, what it escalated, and what it got wrong — so you can fix the wording rather than guess.

The Switchboard dashboard: calls answered, share handled without a person, jobs booked and reply latency, above a call-volume chart and a list of recent calls.

Containment

The share it finished alone

The number that decides whether this saves you anything. Published industry benchmarks sit near 40–70%2; yours is on the tile, not in a brochure.

Outcomes

Booked, message, transferred, lost

Counted from what actually happened on the call, not inferred from how long it ran. Abandoned calls are shown, not hidden.

Latency p95

The tail, not the average

A mean reply time hides the pauses that make a caller hang up. We report the 95th percentile against an 800 ms target.

Before you ask

The questions everyone asks second.

Does it tell people it’s not a human?

Yes, on the first turn of every call, and the setting cannot be turned off. Letting a caller believe they are speaking to a person is misleading conduct under s18 of the Australian Consumer Law, and it is the fastest way to lose the customer you just captured.

What happens when it can’t help?

It transfers, or it takes a message and texts you within seconds — whichever you configured. Expect roughly a quarter to a third of calls to need a person; that is normal and it is the metric we put on the dashboard rather than hide.

Do I have to change my phone number?

No. You divert your existing number to us — conditionally when you are busy or don’t answer, or permanently. It takes about a minute on the handset and you can undo it just as fast.

Where do the recordings live?

In Sydney, encrypted, on a retention window you choose. Speech recognition and synthesis also run in the Australian region rather than being shipped offshore and back.

Can it use our booking system?

It reads and writes real availability rather than emailing a request. If your system is not on the list yet, tell us during the trial — connectors are the part we add fastest.

What if it says something wrong?

Every call is transcribed and scored against the instructions you set. Failures surface on the dashboard with the transcript attached, so a bad answer is a wording change you make in a minute, not a mystery.

Stop paying for the calls you miss.

Thirty minutes free. Keep your number. Hear it answer before anyone else does.
